Tablespoon Cafe Serves Up New American Cuisine

With the opening of Tablespoon Cafe, Cranford has once again expanded its culinary offerings. The restaurant’s owner, Walaa Elsawi, is an experienced restaurateur who was previously a part owner of Le Rendez-vous in Kenilworth, as well as the owner of restaurants in Red Bank and Point Pleasant Beach. Walaa had been looking for the perfect place to open his newest venture, and saw Cranford as a town with a burgeoning dining scene, as well as a great location.

Walaa studied in France, and has translated that love of French-inspired food into his menu at Tablespoon. The dishes on his menu include classics such as Escargot, Warm Goat Cheese Salad, Duck Breast, Seared Ahi Tuna, Steak & Frites, and homemade desserts including Creme Brulee and Tiramisu. Walaa has been doing many of these dishes for years, and has perfected them. The restaurant can also accommodate vegetarian diners.

The restaurant will start off serving dinner Tuesday-Sunday. Eventually Walaa would like to expand to serve brunch. Tablespoon is a BYOB restaurant, so customers can feel free to bring their own bottles of wine or beer to enjoy with their meal. The restaurant takes reservations so people can plan ahead for their night out. Walaa has high standards when it comes to the enjoyment of his customers. To that end, he plans to be cooking in the back every night, ensuring that he’s putting out the best food and experience possible. The passion that Walaa has for cooking is evident in even the briefest conversation with him. We wish him well, and we’re so happy to welcome another restaurant to Downtown Cranford.
